ARPAN VOHRA, DEBARUN AND SANJAY HINGU DISPLAYED A MELANGE OF GARMENTS AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2010

ARPAN VOHRA’S STYLISH LINE DAZZLED ON THE RAMP

It was a great mix of glittering couture and touches of sporty elements that came forth in the collection by Arpan Vohra for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010. Although inspired by the glamorous era of the 1950s and 60s for the skirts and maxi dresses, Arpan also gave a modern 21st century touch to the sari and blouse.

An interesting mix of drapes and cuts for the bodysuits and corsets added to the glam quotient of the garments. Colours moved from nude, beige, hot pink and striking red with ombres and the structured detailing for the creations was eye catching. With couture as the theme it was rich embroidery with gold sequins, silver bugle beads, intricate jali and appliqués along with thread work that dazzled on the catwalk.

The blue green sari in tulle teamed with churidars and swimsuit top, beige corset with hot pants and cutwork shrug, draped beige pants with sequined backless top, fuschia pink sari with crystals and the silver and red cutwork evening skirt with velvet corset and cutwork bolero were pure Hollywood and Red Carpet glamour.

Show stopper Bollywood star, Chitrangda Singh in a gorgeous nude corset prom dress with tights was the perfect stunning end to the show.

For glitter, glitz and dazzle Arpan Vohra’s latest couture collection will be a great eye catcher anywhere.

DEBARUN BROUGHT THE BEAUTY OF BENGAL ONTO THE RAMP

For Winter/Festive 2010 at Lakmé Fashion Week, Debarun Mukherjee’s “Dear Imagination” collection inspired by a social cause of the same name was an esoteric look at fashion. Moving through Debarun’s creativity the collection was a line of beautiful ensembles created with love and care. Bringing together an eclectic mix of shapes, patterns, colours, fabrics and embellishments from around the globe, Debarun’s fashion odyssey was a stylish mix of design and creativity.

Women’s wear had sequined bodice for long pleated printed gown, or saris with floral print. The noticeable single flower motif was translated into print as well as embroidery and appeared on saris, blouses, capes and dresses. The butterfly sleeve printed mini, the harem pants with a cute gilet, the all-in-one cape blouse cum bustier and the red net empire line panelled kurta with dongri salwar were all a variety of choices for women. The finale black pleated skirt with long toga tunic ended the show on a high note.

Men’s wear had a black velvet sherwani, waistcoat, short baggy bundgala jacket and printed kurta.

Combining social responsibility and fashion, Debarun Mukherjee brought into focus two very pertinent subjects in an interesting and glamorous manner which will delight lovers of both causes.

STYLE AND SUBSTANCE CAME TOGETHER IN SANJAY HINGU’S MEN’S WEAR COLLECTION

Men’s wear never looked as good as it did for Sanjay Hingu's line for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010. Keeping it young and trendy for the man who wants something that will be a talking piece for him wherever he goes; Sanjay worked on an unconventional inspiration, taken from the blocks, construction work and buildings under renovation.

To match it, the fabrics were solid and full bodied like Teri Wool, pure wool, cotton and velvet in strong masculine shades of black, grey, purple and green and a few checks thrown in. Exclusive T shirts were a good bet in dark check prints ideal for those cold months, jackets and suits were sharply cut and easy on the eye.

Sharply cut one button suits, biker gear, cropped jackets, were the focal point of the collection. Giving men’s wear a trendy look were the two-toned double jacket with half lapel, the full checked suit, a mix of solid and print for the jackets, zippered textured bomber jackets, the tartan checked suit and the black biker’s gear were smart innovations. Zippers also made some quirky head gear for the male models.

The overall look by Sanjay Hingu was very international for a very young stylish globe trotting male who wants to make an impression with his sartorial style.
