Michelle Obama's closet worth $ 2.7 Billion

If you're tired of hearing about Michelle Obama's style, you're not alone. For more than two years, the media has picked apart seemingly every piece of the First Lady's wardrobe, pitting her against similarly stylish first ladies from around the globe. But now a new take on Mrs. O's style has surfaced, and it's well worth paying attention to given its economic implications. Simply put: Mrs. Obama is a one-woman stimulus plan. A new study, published in the Harvard Business Review this week, "Found that following 189 public appearances between November 2008 and December 2009, Michelle Obama created $2.7 billion in cumulative abnormal returns." This financial jolt has translated into an additional $2.7 billion in stock for the 29 companies polled - Nina Ricci, J. Crew, GAP, and Calvin Klein included.

The Fashion Statement: Fashion's First Lady

We know the First Lady has style. But did you know she was responsible for $2.7 billion in fashion sales at the height of the recession ?

In a story published this week by the Harvard Business Review, Michelle Obama made more than 189 public appearances clothed in 29 brands between November, 2008, and December, 2009. After each of those appearances, fashionistas ran out to buy something from whatever label she wore, generating an average of $14 million in sales. This in turn affected the company's stock price which sometimes remained at an elevated level for weeks.

A celebrity's power is nothing new to the fashion world. But it turns out Michelle Obama is the holy grail of celebrity endorsements.

Every Finger Tells a Story

THREE years ago, Sharmadean Reid, a London nail salon owner, was watching the American Music Awards when she saw Beyonce Knowles with a manicure that made her nails look as if they’d been plated with gold. “I paused the television,” she said. “I was like, ‘What is on her nails?’ Gimme now.”

What was on them was Minx, a flexible polymer film that shrink-wraps to the nail and can be removed with acetone. Ms. Reid, whose Wah Nails has a branch in Topshop in Oxford Circus, a busy shopping area in central London, wasn’t the only manicurist who recognized immediately that such a technique was as revolutionary as the quick-dry topcoat once was.

Joey D: Vintage - the modern way

Traditional Scottish attire deconstructed, reconstructed and recycled

Joey D dissembles traditional Scottish attire, reassembling it in a completely new and unique way. Working with Harris Tweed, leather, denim and old shoes, the Edinburgh designer succeeds in creating some truly interesting pieces. Some are unques tionably for the more daring conoisseur, but the accessories are wearable and affordable.
