Paper fashion had entry line around the block

The 7th Annual Paper Fashion Show left a lasting impression in Denver on Thursday night at the City Hall Event Center. The show featured models strutting the runway in outfits made entirely out of paper…not the typical couture material. Nevertheless, this unique fashion show drew 1,000 patrons to witness the jaw-dropping wearable art.

Models wore outfits inspired by aquatic life, gladiator warriors and floral designs. Some even glowed in the dark and others had movable parts. Amidst the intricacy of the designs, some paper fashions were simply mirror images of everyday life, including a male model who sported a yellow paper bathrobe and pink bunny slippers…laughable yet creative. The designs were created by local artist teams including students, working professionals and fashion enthusiasts. Team Pulp Fiction was a cut above the rest, winning the competition with their blue and silver colored ballerina-inspired design that looked like a scene out of Swan Lake.

The Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel was turned into a veritable Fantasyland as it came alive with butterflies and birds cutouts suspended from the ceiling. The backdrop of trees and snaking vines around the arched entry of the ramp along with the throbbing strobe lights set the scene for the fantastic show.

Unbelievable metres of diaphanous tulle, silk and French lace moulded with horse hair and can-can gave the outfits a surreal look.

Using the five looks Gauri and Nainika creatively combined their styling and presented cocktail dresses with spiraling drapes and textures in pastel shades of white, blue, green, pink and yellow. One shoulder lace ensembles, cocktail draped and frilled creations, taffeta pencil dresses, mermaid lace and tulle ensemble and the three final magnificent ball gowns in lace and satin would have been the envy of every queen and princess in the world.

SATYA PAUL PRESENTED THE GLAMOROUS JEWELS OF THE SEA COLLECTION FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

March 15, 2011, Mumbai: When the Satya Paul label appears on the ramp the look is truly feminine, glamorous and exciting. “The Jewels of the Sea” collection presented by Satya Paul for Summer/Resort 2011 at Lakmé Fashion Week was an ethnic and western offering comprising saris, lehengas and serene western creations.
Using the inspirations of the theme cleverly, Satya Paul had a mix of Lurex and glitter net for its sheer quality and had prints and embellishments to create the elements of the sea.
Divided into three segments the fabric choice was vast starting with chiffon, crepe, georgette and satin along with textured taffeta, organza, net and silk prints. Embroidery was added to create drama for the creations. Dresses, gowns, tunics, kaftans, blouses and pareos floated down the ramp in dazzling colours.
The Ultramarine line was feminine and fluid in vast shades of blue with hints of lime green for the perfect resort look. Opening with a gorgeous Spanish style ruffled organza lehenga and corset, the show moved to embroidered saris with sexy long sleeved blouses, empire line gowns with sequined bodices, short slinky georgette slit sleeve tops, and shaded layered lehenga, choli, dupatta trio.
The Multi Marine collection had nautical marine prints with shimmering solids and lace, sequins sheeting, foiling and rhinestones that added to the exotic appeal of the collection. Here it was magnificent net gowns, sequined sheaths in green and red, multicoloured twinkling saris with undersea flora embroidery, a red sheeting mini topped with a printed kaftan and ended with a printed embroidered bridal mermaid style lehenga, choli and veil.
The X-ray Marine Look showed bold black and white graphic prints with crystals, stones and large splashes of pleating for that ideal cocktail wear option. Here the two colours were given a more lavish treatment as black will power lace sheath, white gown with embroidered bodice, tasseled pallav saris and ruffled sari blouses were a sensational line for night time glamour.
The showstopper was former Miss India Sarah Jane Dias in a magnificent red ruffled hem lehenga and corset, encrusted with crystals.
With the “Jewels of the Sea” collection by Satya Paul the label presented one of the finest and most glamorous collections ever seen on the ramp.

ABHISHEK DUTTA AND LINA TIPNIS WERE INSPIRED BY STYLES THAT WILL WORK BEAUTIFULLY FOR SUMMER RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

ABHISHEK DUTTA GAVE MINIMALISM A TRENDY FASHION TWIST FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

March 15, 2011, Mumbai: Unconventional silhouettes and a title that evokes instant interest is the way Abhishek Dutta likes to tell his collection story for Summer/Resort 2011 at Lakmé Fashion Week.

“The Kite Runner” was a men’s and women’s line that blitzed on to the ramp with kaleidoscopic colours as canary yellow, tangerine orange and grape mingled with neutrals like ivory, beige and steel. With origami as his inspiration, Abhishek played with folds and created a mélange of hemlines, plackets and seams. Detailing was abundant with striking appliqués, laser cutouts, channel seams and screen prints for cottons linen and knit.

When it came to the silhouettes, the designer gave a nod to comfort and preferred trapeze lines, shifts, yoga pants, cool summer jackets and draped creations.

Some of the great looks were the yellow laser cut knit top with grey folded skirt, the chiffon grey kurta with laser yoke, the mul looped armhole creation, the three button long tunic with churidars, shorts with inverted pleats and side pockets, and even a printed sari with a sexy laser cut halter choli.

Showstopper Nisha Kothari ended the women’s wear section in a laser cut halter and multi folded skirt.

For men, Abhishek created lean jackets, organza shirt with orange pants, and some laser cut sleeveless shirts, a brown tiny lapel jacket and a bundgala with orange zig zag embroidery.

Shayan Munshi stopped the men’s wear section in a sharply cut one lapel grey jacket teamed with a yellow trouser with inverted pleats.

For relaxed summer wear, Abhishek Dutta’s “The Kite Runner” collection will have many buyers chasing it for the sultry months.

LINA TIPNIS MOVED INTO THE FUTURE WITH HER STYLISH FANTASTICAL LAND COLLECTION FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

Shades of burnt sienna and coal, skin and egg and the frothy blue clouds – these were the colours that sailed down the runway as Lina Tipnis unveiled her “Fantastical Land” Summer/Resort 2011 collection at Lakmé Fashion Week.

Giving a strong emphasis to cocktail and club wear the sharply cut minis, were tailored in basic shapes that moved from sheaths to shifts and trapeze silhouettes, with a few blouses and Jodhpuri trousers completing the look. Displaying a distinct shoulder emphasis for many of the garments, Lina added on interesting sleeves that moved from pegged to cowl.

Using her signature Trompe L’oeil technique featuring the chandelier and coin print for the creations, the collection was a mix of style, practicality and colour coordination.

Introducing her line of specially designed jewellery - earrings and rings - Lina matched them beautifully with every garment.

Giving a galactic title to each ensemble, Lina started with a dupion skirt in midnight blue with satin tank top, the stylish palazzos with black one-shoulder top, peg dress in ochre with star brooch, elegant sienna dress with circular sleeves and jewelled shoulder patch, another shift with diamond harness around the armholes and an hour glass dress in midnight blue with jewelled shoulders.

The shimmering embroidery was often added to act as necklaces or pendants on the dresses. The final trench in black with pewter coin print had shimmering collar and epaulettes that ended the perfect summer ready-to-wear collection.

Lina Tipnis’s offering of the “Fantastical Land” will surely fly off the racks this season with the international as well as the Indian buyers.
