Day 4 : Show 1 : ABHISHEK BYAS, SABASHE BY SABAH KHAN AND VAISHALI SHADANGULE : LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

ABHISHEK BYAS, SABASHE BY SABAH KHAN AND VAISHALI SHADANGULE OPENED DAY FOUR WITH INTERESTING FASHION DIRECTIONS
FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011 AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

ABHISHEK BYAS GAVE A FLAMBOYANT TOUCH TO HIS COLLECTION

March 14, 2011, Mumbai: Calling his collection “Never-the-less”, Abhishek Byas inspired by the clowns and jokers of Gotham comics worked around their enigmatic images and transferred those touches to his creations.

From monochrome tones to primary and secondary colours, Abhishek added some clever deconstructed deformed looks to innovative cuts and showed a line that worked rather well between ready-to-wear and high fashion.

Texturing moved from checks, stripes, pleats and then to prints with embroidery. Using cotton, silk, satin and chiffon to present some interesting contradictions to his collection, Abhishek had a wide cocktail to offer.

The rouched will power cocktail dress, a funky black and white draped asymmetrical ensemble, bubble skirts, long lean contoured jackets and dresses with shoulders or hips emphasis all came together for a fun filled line of clothing that will evoke instant attention for Abhishek Byas as well as the wearer.

SABASHE BY SABAH KHAN PRESENTED A RUSTIC DOWN TO EARTH LINE

Sabah Khan’s Sabashe label presented a quaintly titled collection “Tuk Tuk” which is another word for the Tangewala or Rickshawala. So how can a popular public transport inspire a designer?

As she travelled daily the pastel uniforms of the drivers, the bright coloured insides of the rickshaw walls, the typical curve of the vehicle made a creative impression on Sabah’s mind. Aimed at trendy, hep youth, the interesting ensembles came alive with the unique theme. Displaying a line of 16 outfits, Sabah had a striking variety which ranged from cute bikinis to hot pants, dhoti dungarees, waist coats, T backs - all ideal for summer wear with many mix and match options.

Patched panelled boleros, pre-stitched fabric blocked saris, shorts, jackets with rickshaw print, shredded waistcoats, cropped long sleeve jacket, tie up blouses, comfy loose pants,  panelled long maxis - the look was pure divine kitsch. Mention has to be made of the very cute waist pouches, large colourful bags and neat flat sandals that matched the collection.

The showstopper was Bollywood’s star from the forthcoming movie “Naughty at 40”, Yuvika Chaudhary who danced down the ramp in a wired hand painted lehenga and racer back choli with the words “Keep Distance” on it.

Using cool linen in the pure and stretch forms with leggings and embellished with digital prints, the “Tuk Tuk” collection was a fun trendy look at summer gear.

VAISHALI SHADANGULE’S COLLECTION WAS A STRIKING MIX OF MEMORIES AND STYLE

It was back to the future for Vaishali Shadangule as she unveiled her Summer/Resort 2011 collection titled “Virus Free” at Lakmé Fashion Week.

Moving into the past and drawing inspirations from her wonderful childhood days, Vaishali, remembered her dolls, boats, paper planes and balls which guided her into different modes of draping, folding and fabric stitching for her collection.

Playing with lines and geometrics, the designer chose Chanderi as the base fabric, using its transparency and fluidity in an unconventional manner for the tunic range. The clever folds and intricate drapes gave the collection a futuristic touch.

Ethereal delicate creations glided down the catwalk. Halter tunics with tie-ups, dresses with frills from the neck to waist, green tube draped with a string tie up, flap collar tunic and finally a blue and gold one shoulder long gown with gold border layered to end with an asymmetric hemline and teamed with shorts was a regal creation.

For garments that move away from the beaten path, Vaishali Shadangule’s “Virus Free” collection will make a stylish impact this season.
