Day 4 : show 2 : AMALRAJ SENGUPTA, PURVI DOSHI AND SANJAY HINGU : LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

AMALRAJ SENGUPTA, PURVI DOSHI AND SANJAY HINGU MOVED INTO THE SUMMER/RESORT 2011 MODE AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

IT WAS CHECKMATE ON THE RAMP FOR AMALRAJ SENGUPTA’S SUMMER/RESORT 2011 LINE

March 14, 2011, Mumbai: For Amalraj Sengupta, it was a black and white fashion story with a collection called “In the Game of Chess.” 32 garments had two sets of eight ensembles each, designed to provide perfect ready-to-wear options.

Moving into a more formal avant garde section, Amalraj merged the black and white colour duet into some interesting creations. Bringing to life his theme, Amalraj selected summer fabrics like cotton, linen, silk, organza, satin and chiffon.

The construction was extreme with flaps, layers, pleats, pin tucks for both the men’s and women’s garments which almost gave them a space age feel.

For men, Amalraj visualized rolled front double breasted shirts, white pin tucked bib ones or some with fully pleated sleeves. Zig zag closures for jackets or an elaborate sleeveless version, a light quilted waistcoat, the extended double shoulder coat and the final pleated cape layered in a magnificent shape gave a futuristic look to garments for the stronger sex.

Women’s wear was more subdued with pouched will- power mini, pin tucked asymmetric petal skirt dress, an extended sleeve layered flap creation, a folded tiered frilled gown and a double shoulder coat which were truly conversation pieces.

For a dual tone dramatic line of garments, Amalraj Sengupta’s Chess inspired collection for men and women will make all the right moves anywhere.

PURVI DOSHI’S COLLECTION BLOSSOMED IN MYRIAD COLOURS, FABRICS AND STYLES FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2011

When a collection is called “Bloom Boom” it has to create a colourful story on the ramp. Purvi Doshi’s Summer/Resort 2011 line at Lakmé Fashion Week had a gorgeous mix of sensuous cottons, mul muls, matka and printed Kota in delicate shades of blue, maroon rust and pristine white.

The embellishments were as tender and elegant as the theme with Aari and Khaat embroidery worked into floral motifs like rose, lotus, and tulips with utterly feminine frills and pockets which made a distinct style statement.

There were perfect summer options like the light blue mini with embroidered pockets, white mul front razor dress with peach embroidered pocket flaps, the maroon matka silk calk length pants with embellished pockets teamed with jacket and top, and the light blue ruffled shorts worn with a jacket sporting hanging pockets. The solitary sari in the collection in zari Kota had Aari work on the blouse and embroidery on the pallav.

For the strong independent woman of the 21st century, Purvi Doshi’s “Bloom Boom” will be ideal summer wear.

SANJAY HINGU IMPRESSED THE AUDIENCE WITH HIS STYLISH MEN’S WEAR LINE

Presenting a quick crisp men’s wear line for Summer/Resort 2011, Sanjay Hingu proved that design and style can also be a part of the stronger sex’s wardrobe.

Sharply cut jackets, very lean trousers and the one button silhouette cut close to the body, Sanjay displayed a variety of garments in pastel colours like powder blue, beige, grey, mustard and mid brown at times in checks or with tonal embroidery.

Prints appeared for the full suits and there was just a hint of embossing on the pants. The zippered blousons too were skin tight to match the trousers. Printed insets on the back and front or slashed at the yoke gave an interesting focus to the collection.

Fabrics ranged from cottons to linen and brocade for cool summer comfort. Some of the highlights of the show were the beige checked high peak lapel jacket, grey jacket with vertical rows of floral embroidery, the beige jacket teamed with grey batik trousers, and the Bermudas worn with a panelled two vents jacket with brocade and solids were teamed with black stockings. The all over prints for the complete suits were minute and in subdued tones while, the appliqué striped blouson and the printed blue hooded version with shorts, revealed Sanjay’s trendy youthful men’s wear options.

For stylish comfortable basic men’s wear Sanjay Hingu’s collection will give the best options.
