Emmy Fashion 2010: The Night’s Best and Worst Dressed

It was television’s biggest night Sunday evening, and the ladies dressed to impress. Black and navy gowns dominated the red carpet, with jewel tones, neutrals and bold brights helping a few actresses stand out from the crowd.

Kelly Osbourne looked fabulous in her black Tony Ward Emmy dress! (Though I’m not sure I’m sold on the hair.) Still the dress deserves major bonus points – Simple. Elegant. Amazing. It’s a good thing too. Kelly spent her time on the red carpet critiquing other actor’s looks for E!

Unfortunately Edie Falco and Anna Paquin didn’t fare as well in the black dress department. We thought Edie’s made her look too boxy and boring, while Anna’s was a little too over the top. We like the warrior inspired look, but we’d prefer to have seen Anna rock it a little more subtly, and leave the full chest-plate at home. (Plus what is with that seem going right across her waist?!)

Lo Bosworth and Stephanie Pratt were apparently also invited to the Emmy’s but failed to rise to the occasion. Lo looked like she was auditioning for a secretarial role on Mad Men, and Steph seemed to have purchased her snoozeworthy mini-dress from the sale rack of Forever 21. Why were these to there again?

If You Don't Own One, Its Time to Get Yourself A Ladies Cardigan

Every woman has an article of clothing that they cannot live without--for me it is my simple black ladies cardigan. No matter your age, style, or body type there is a cardigan that will be flattering to your appearance without a doubt. This is the most versatile piece of clothing I own; on any given day of the week I could pair it with a vibrant solid colored collared shirt and a pencil skirt and be off to work with an air of confidence. If when the weekend rolls around I’m feeling lackadaisical, I can dress the same ladies cardigan down by wearing it over a loosely fitted embellished tank top with a pair of fitted jeans.

Red carpet catastrophes at the Emmys

The red carpet outside the Nokia Theater Sunday evening for the 62nd annual Emmy Awards featured a harem of Grecian goddesses in white, a bevy of midnight blue ballgowns and way too many dresses that make you go "ugh."

While all of Hollywood made the effort to get dressed up, the fashion police could have handed out plenty of tickets for style violations.

Kudos to the cast of "Mad Men" for taking home the Emmy for outstanding drama series, but I have to ask if the ladies in the cast were insane when they chose those unflattering frocks for the evening’s festivities. Red carpet watchers debated all evening long about January Jones’ shiny blue Versace gown. It featured a strapless, sweetheart neckline and full, short hemline in front with a long fishtail in back. While the bodice fit like a glove, the skirt looked too much like a blue UFO hovering around her tiny waistline.

And shame on Donna Karan for tying Elizabeth Moss up in pale lilac knots, while Zac Posen might as well have tarred and feathered Christina Hendricks. The marabou that trimmed Hendricks’ shoulders and full hemline was a disaster.

Fashion Trends - How Fashion Trends Are Started

If you have ever watched any part of the fashion shows that go on each year, you see clothes that will never make it to your local store. In fact, you may never see these things again. As the average consumer, you could never afford any of those things, even if you want to get them. What you can learn from these shows, however, is what may be indeed trickling down in the stores.

You may never find anything that looks remotely like what you see on the runway, or at least that is what you might think. The elements of those designs, however, are going to be everywhere. They take parts and pieces, and usually the general feel of an item from high fashion and then they turn them into clothes that most of us can wear. Things like the line of a skirt, a type of hat, and even a color will dictate the latest fashion trends.

You don't have to look to the runways to find out about the latest fashion trends, however. All you have to do is watch television. What you see on your favorite actors and actresses is what will be coming along very soon. Those who choose the wardrobes for various shows are keeping up with the latest fashion trends, and at times, setting them. You can find a lot of information and inspiration when you watch soap operas, as they always dress nicely, and they are aired very shortly after the episodes are shot.

You can also find out more about the latest fashion trends by looking around the stores. When you see something you have never seen before, it is likely that someone designed this hoping it would catch on. New colors and shapes are often signs that new things are coming around. You only have to decide what you like and what you want to skip. You are going to find that many of the latest fashion trends are not to your liking, but there will always be something there that you do like. This is why we follow the trends, but we all look good in a different way. There are plenty of options, all you have to do is go with what you like and what looks good on you.

Emmy Awards 2010 fashion: Black and white all over the red carpet

The 2010 Emmy Awards will not make any headlines on the front fashion, unless you count all the ladies who went the black and white route. Sometimes it worked -- Tina Fey either tries too hard or not at all, but we thought her beaded Oscar de la Renta struck the right note, interesting but not over the top. Sometimes it didn't -- did anyone else get an urge to go out for a black-and-white cookie after seeing Lauren Graham's oddly-cut number?

Emma Watson discovers the importance of ethical fashion!

She took a trip to Bangladesh to find out more about People Tree's work...

Why do we love Emma Watson? Because she's got the intelligence and grace all us young ladies should aspire to have. That includes you, Katie Price.

With Emma it's not all about celebrity parties, designer clothes and looking good. She's got a brain (heck, the girl studies at the Ivy League Brown University) and she's not afraid to use it for a good cause.

That's why down-to-earth Emma got involved with ethical fashion retailer People Tree. Though not content with just modelling for the range, she recently took a trip to Bangladesh to meet factory workers living in the country's poorest slums. In fact, Emma was so keen to make a difference she even got stuck in helping People Tree workers with the sewing.

How To Wear Sequins In Summer And Winter — Without Being Cher

Don’t worry: sequin skirts – summer’s most fun party piece – can be worn well into fall and even winter (with a little clever styling, that is). So don’t put yours in storage: keep in the closet, throw on some opaque tights and swap your sandals for booties and you are good-to-go through winter.

Pretty young things Jessica Stroup, Whitney Port and Miley Cyrus show how to wear the sequin trend to all those summer parties (hint: it involves a basic white tan, strappy heels and not much else).

Sari sorority: Why Parsi ladies are a national fashion treasure

The Parsi community was the first to co-opt Western customs and dress and they extended this to the traditional sari. So six metres of silk from China ("gaaj" or "paaj") came back with traditional Chinese embroidery on the border and the decorative end of the sari known as the "pallav" or the entire body of the sari. And the gara was born.

Initially the entire length of cloth had a border embroidered, it was "framed", as was said. Then as the fashionable women disapproved of the thick bulge at the waist where the sari was tucked in, the newer ones left the top length of the sari unembroidered. The style of wearing the sari by the Parsi women also gave the really old saris a distinctive mark. The corner of the pallav was left unembroidered as this bit was tucked in at the waist when worn in the Gujarati style as Parsi women of yore were wont to do.

Fashion Necessities For Every Age

Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester recently said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar: “Any fear of aging, I think, is simply vanity. What comes with age are so many wonderful things: wisdom, understanding… Every year, I’m always happy to be done with the previous age.”

Yes, ladies, we all have a fear of aging but do not let that affect your already-chic style! Do not be tempted to buy those “mom” jeans, fashionistas! That is not good for you!

Embrace your years and the years ahead of you! To all the young ones reading this, trust me chicas, don’t let aging stress you out! With age comes knowledge and a je n’est sais quoi that you’ll grow to be so very appreciative of.

Aging doesn’t mean giving up on fashion, beauty or sexy. If anything, you should be even more aware of fine-tuning your personal brand to communicate who you are, what you stand for and what you want out of life! So yes darling, you can still wear those white jeans but they better flatter.

Fashion Tips for Pregnant Ladies

Who says, you can’t be fashionable when you are pregnant? Well, you will be surprised to know that pregnant ladies have more fashionable options than non-pregnant ladies. Check out some great fashion tips for pregnant ladies in this article.

It’s true that an important aspect to consider in pregnancy for pregnant women is to hide their growing tummy. Pregnant ladies often struggle to find the right clothes for their expanding shape. Thus, many fashion designers have come up with designer maternity clothes and tips.

A useful fashion tip for pregnant ladies is to choose well sweat absorptive fabric, because a pregnant woman feels warm and sweaty. Avoid wearing bad quality fabrics during maternity time, else you will find yourself allergic to it. Also, avoid wearing clothes that put pressure on your belly area in pregnancy.
