' Party in Pink' ladies night set Oct. 21

By CHERIL VERNON Palestine Herald-Press

PALESTINE — An inaugural “Party in Pink” ladies night breast cancer awareness fund-raiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Palestine Civic Center.

“We are directing this ladies night at women of course, because women like to shop and mingle, but anyone can come,” said Island Tans & Gift Boutique owner Tabitha Blevins said. “Women are encouraged to dress in pink, and join us for a night of live music and entertainment, guest speakers, fashion show, shopping, fabulous food, margaritas, door prizes, dancing and so much more!”

The event is a breast cancer awareness fund-raiser for a local fund to provide mammograms to the uninsured and underinsured in Anderson County.

“We want to keep the money here to help area residents,” Blevins said.

Sponsors include, but are not limited to: Resolutions Weight Loss Center Inc., Island Tans & Gift Boutique, B’s Hive of Therapy Day Spa, P3 Professional Sound & Lighting, Final Touches Event Planning, Subs ‘n’ Dogs, El Toro’s and Gerry Red Inc., Stephanie’s Boutique and Reflections.

“This event is growing daily as more people are wanting to get involved,” Blevins said.

The event will be set up as a ladies night out with booths available to purchase different items or services. B’s Hive of Therapy Day Spa will offer free massages.

“The Island Tans booth will be a breast cancer awareness booth with lots of information and we will have lots of breast cancer awareness products to purchase such as bracelets and hats with the proceeds going toward breast cancer,” Blevins said.

Final Touches Event Planning is providing a margarita machine to make pink margaritas for the occasion. Wine and other beverages also will be available.

“We are not requiring the requested $5 cover charge to get in, but we do ask that everyone give a donation,” Blevins said. “Anyone can come out without having purchase anything, but we ask that they bring a few dollars to donate for the food, beverages and a good time.”

Door prizes will be given away throughout the night.

“Besides the door prizes, we will have one large raffle filled with items and gift certificates donated from area businesses. Just the Island Tan gift certificates alone are worth $500,” Blevins said. “This is like winning a grand prize.”

The tickets for the drawing are $1 each.

The “Party in Pink” event is being held to help educate, advocate, empower and support women affected by breast cancer.

“We’ve had a great response from the area businesses — they’ve been very receptive,” Blevins said.

“We will have a special part of the evening where breast cancer survivors or those affected by cancer can share their story,” Blevins said. “We want this night to be about educating, advocating and supporting women all in one.”
