It was celebration time for Payal Singhal at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2010. The designer with her ten years in the business of fashion felt that the title should have a touch of humour so her collection had that subtle pun as she called it “Decadence” but of course with no reference to the fast and furious life.
Having earned accolades in the USA for her collections of wearable, affordable and luxurious clothes; Payal's look was a kaleidoscope of the best selling award winning silhouettes over the decade featuring the simple glittering style of the Payal Singhal signature.
Colours were rampant on the catwalk as the designer revealed pink, coral, tangerine to aqua, grape, plum and navy. Fabrics that are a favourite with Payal were all there - from crepe, satin, georgette to tulle and brocade in the simple silhouettes that Payal is known for. She even included her favourite Faux Pas with their classic sparkle which the designer added as a reminder.
The creations dazzled with beautiful ornate Swarovski crystal pieces as belts, bustier, yoke, and straps and on the necklines as necklaces.
The show opened with a white pleated crepe kurta with antique gold straps, moved to a lemon tulle draped kurta with peacock broach and deep “V” at back. Soon there was a mango crepe short kalidar kurta with zardozi, a cobalt blue rouched kurta with shoulder crystals, lots of black and midnight blue kalidar kurtas and a striking slate jumpsuit with a crystal neck piece.Skinny sheer leggings accompanied the stylish kurtas.
Payal’s show stoppers were a triple offering of TV anchor Perizaad Kolah in a peach lehenga set, Bollywood star Tejaswini Kolhapure in a white dazzling skirt and blouse and TV VJ Maria Gorretti in a peach lehenga sari ensemble.
It was a great “Decadence” story from Payal Singhal which will be a fast seller once again as her buyers will love to move back into past and go on a nostalgic trip.
SHYAMAL AND BHUMIKA MOVED ONTO A REGAL BRIDAL TRADITIONAL PATH
There was a lot of majesty, colour and regal glamour in the collection called “Bejewelled” by Shyamal and Bhumika for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010. Here was clothing of the Maharajas which was surrounded by grandeur in days of yore.
The show opened with the top music directors, Salim and Sulaiman – the former in a red dhoti salwar and cream bundgala and the latter in a blue heavily embroidered sherwani. What followed were the most sensational bridal creations dazzling under the arc lights.
The heaviest of velvets, lots of silk nets, gold lame and luxurious brocades came together in shades of royal splendour. Colours played a magnificent symphony for the garments as jewel tones like bright red, sangria, plum, wine, emerald green, gold ochre and champagne beige dazzled on the ramp.
Pure Indian ethnic couture glided down the catwalk. Kalidar lehengas fit for every bride, lots of zardozi, zari, aari, antique gotta work along with “peeta and wasli” embroidery in gold yarn added to the dazzle of the creations. There was hand work for the sexy cholis, the delicate net veils glittered with sparkles and the ornate necklines, borders and hemlines were perfectly etched for the creations.
The gorgeous bridal wear for women ranged from velvet lehengas, and dupattas, deep red sari with black velvet shawl, Rajah coat with churidars, short kalidar kurta with tiny velvet bolero, crystal choli with beige embroidered lehenga and maroon velvet dupatta, short kurtas with velvet salwars and a dramatic red chiffon sari with gold work worn with a long sleeved gold blouse.
The show stopper was top singer, Sunidhi Chauhan glided on the ramp in a splendid red and green sari glittering with gold embroidery and worn with a gold choli.
Men’s wear ranged from ornate velvet or brocade sherwanis, kurtas, bundis and bundgalas with heavy zardozi work teamed with impressive velvet opulent glittering shawls. Amrapali’s sensational jewellery added to the grandeur of the creations.
Detailing like jewelled buttons, armlets, turbans added to the royal look of an era that was known for its glitz and glamour. Each creation as it floated down the runway from Shyamal and Bhumika was a dream outfit that women and men would like to possess for the most important events of their lives.
