NANDITA THIRANI AND RAJAT TANGRI MADE A DUAL CREATIVE IMPACT ON THE RUNWAY AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2010

NANDITA THIRANI ADDED THE RIGHT TOUCHES OF GLAMOUR TO HER DELICATE COLLECTION

Beautiful and ethereal like a gentle breeze, Nandita Thirani’s show at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 was inspired by a pretty flower. Called “Flor De Luna” in Spanish for “Moonflower”, the pretty blossom appeared as a motif on all the garments large or small embroidery or on edges of necks, hemlines and sleeves. Creating a “Bridged” line, the colour story ranged from orange, brown, black, green, purple, mauve, red, and maroon for a mix of chiffons, silks and velvets which were used cleverly in each garment.

Starting with a brown chiffon asymmetric flared one button tunic, the show continued with velvet bolero and skirt, and then moved onto a pretty pinafore with button detailing. A stylish black military raja coat, a purple angarkha kurta, a glamorous sari with embroidered border and cummerbund, the sleek black gilet, the velvet mini with skinny pants and the double breast kurti. Little touches like drawstring on the hem or tissue elbow patches gave a contemporary look to the garments. The collection ended with lavishly embellished lehengas with the moonflower appearing in zari on the hems or clustered all over and teamed with a frill edged dupatta and seductive choli.

For women who want to step into creations that are elegant but cleverly combine embellishments with colour, style and fabrics; then Nandita Thirani’s latest collection will please them.

RAJAT TANGRI MADE A DEFINITE FASHION STATEMENT WITH HIS VINTAGE CREATION

Rajat Tangri gave western couture the look and feel of glitz and glamour. Calling his collection for Winter/Festive 2010 at Lakmé Fashion Week “Vintage Romance” he moved into the past for inspirations that ranged from Grecian to Victorian lines. The colours were soft and beautiful with vanilla ice moving gradually to matte gold. The silhouettes had a clever mix of masculine and feminine shapes. Borrowing heavily from modern day trends Rajat presented a line which had unique hand embroidery that varied with textures and craft.

The elegantly designed collection started with a stylish white will-power bubble dress with a heavily embellished belt and was followed by one in crushed silk with shoulder interest. Drapes appeared for satin gown with sequined cowls, lime green chiffon was rouched into a mini or in a sheer gown worn over a body suit.

A tailored look was seen for a grey silk jacket with heavily textured pants, while ruffles on the neck, sleeve and hem gave a flirty look to the dress. Shimmer and dazzle appeared for a gold halter, cowled Capri pants, a bell sleeved mini and then the glittering blacks appeared in the form of mini, skirt and a striking shawl collar tuxedo jacket.

Show stopper Koena Mitra, the sexy Bollywood star glided on the ramp in a will-power shimmering mini with pink edging.

The very feminine and ultra stylish collection of evening and formal wear by Rajat Tangri will appeal to women who are looking for elegant graceful vintage inspired pieces for their wardrobe.
